SARAH "Smalls" McCANN
Sarah “Smalls” McCann brings years of experience in sales, marketing, talent management, event production, and education. Originally from Los Angeles, she moved to Santa Cruz to attend UCSC. Two years later, she found herself un-stimulated and lacking possible opportunities, so she moved to San Francisco to pursue the entertainment industry. She produced her first Northern California music event in August of 1999 with a partner at the Maritime Hall in San Francisco. After this event, she started organizing and investing on music events by herself. At the end of 2000, the owner of the Justice League, now The Independent, offered her a Sunday night at the club. That’s when she decided to produce an all female Hip Hop show called Sisterz of the Underground on January 18, 2001. This was the beginning of her life.
After graduating from SF State University with a BA in Liberal Studies, she focused all of her time on the newfound female hip-hop collective, Sisterz of the Underground (SOTU) and was voted "Best Hip Hop Monthly" Event in the SF Bay Guardian in 2001. During this time, she also co-founded DEF ED, a hip hop education program currently running in six counties of the Bay Area, serving over 3,000 youth a year. She also co-founded, Outta Nowhere Entertainment, an independent record label, which is still operating under her previous partner.
In 2005, she co-founded and managed a Northern California based Dance Company- Baysic Project. In December of 2006, Sarah decided to make the transition to Los Angeles and co-founded Hit the Floor Productions and also took the role of Managing Director of their in-house dance company, West Bound. While in Los Angeles, she has worked in event sales at the Legendary House of Blues and Jillian’s Universal CityWalk. She was the Senior Marketing Sales Manager at Pacific Park at the World Famous Santa Monica Pier for almost 5 years assisting with the growth of the tour and travel market and group sales department. After leaving Pacific Park, she was Director of Sales & Marketing for iFLY Hollywood before she found her new home as Regional Director for Southern California for Smart Destinations (now Leisure Pass Group) in 2015. Since she joined her current company, she has managed markets including Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, and Washington D.C. with a focus on product development. She recently got a promotion and is now the Senior Regional Director of the West Coast. Her role as Managing Director at Movin On Up Productions just adds to all of the amazing things she has done professionally.
Not to mention, when she’s not busy being the business guru she is, her love for dance will always be a part of her life. During her time as an active member of one of the legendary Bgirl crews in San Francisco, Extra Credit Kru, she entered many battles, performed at shows, and taught in studios and schools all over the Bay Area. She performed with top artists including KRS-1 and E-40 and was the only Bgirl on the Golden State Warriors “breaking squad” for two seasons. After moving down to Los Angeles, she danced with V.ENT Dance Company and West Bound Dance Company. And not to forget to mention, she is the mother of a beautiful little girl. They call here Sarah Smalls for a reason.
